I am a novelist, radio dramatist and short story writer.  To Capture What We Cannot Keep will be published in late 2016/early 2017 in the UK/US/AUS and will be translated into six languages.

I have written six other novels including The Luminous Life of Lilly Aphrodite (2008)/The Glimmer Palace (US title) which was a Richard and Judy pick and short-listed for several awards including a British Book Award. Pyrates Boy (2013), a novel for children that was shortlisted for the SBT Children's Book Award 2015 and My Invisible Sister (2010) which was made into a film for TV by Disney.

I also write radio plays and adaptations for BBC Radio 4 including the Women’s Hour serials, The Ice Wife (2015) and The True Story of Bonnie Parker (2013). My new radio play, The Ferryman’s Apprentice will be broadcast in 2017 on BBC Radio 4.

A former journalist, my work has been published in newspapers and magazines including The Guardian, The Scotsman, Black Book and The List.  I teach creative writing at the University of Strathclyde.
